CMYK vs. RGB Color Spaces

- RGB (Red, Green, Blue): An additive color space used by screens (phones, monitors, laptops). Colors are created by mixing light on a black canvas. By combining Red, Green, and Blue light at maximum intensity, you get white. This allows for extremely vibrant, neon, and high-saturation colors.
- CMYK (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Key/Black): A subtractive color space used by commercial printers. Colors are created by layering physical ink on a white paper canvas. The ink absorbs (subtracts) light. By combining Cyan, Magenta, and Yellow inks, you get a muddy brown; black ink (K) is added to provide rich shadows and contrast.
Because paper reflects ambient light rather than emitting it, the CMYK color gamut (spectrum) is significantly smaller than RGB. 1. Always Use Vector Fonts
Ensure your final PDF outlines or embeds all fonts. This keeps text crisp at any scale. Never print text that has been rasterized into a flat JPEG or PNG image file, as this will result in blurry, pixelated letter borders.
2. Limit Your Font Weights
Stick to standard font weights like Regular, Medium, and Bold. Avoid using ultra-thin, light, or hairline weights for small body copy. During high-pressure commercial printing, very thin lines can disappear or look broken.
3. Black Text Configuration (100% K)
For body copy, set the black color to 100% K (Key/Black) instead of a rich black (a mix of C, M, Y, K). Rich black text can cause blurry edges due to slight printer alignment errors.
