A standard tri-fold brochure is created from a single horizontal A4 sheet of paper folded twice, resulting in a 6-panel document. However, formatting a tri-fold brochure is not as simple as dividing a standard landscape A4 page (297 mm) into three equal columns of 99mm.
Because the outer panels must fold neatly inside each other, they require slightly different panel widths. If all three columns are identical, the inside fold panel will buckle, bend, and overlap the front cover, preventing the brochure from lying completely flat. - The Bleed Area: Background colors, gradients, and images must extend beyond the trim edge by at least 3mm (0.125 inches). This guarantees that if the paper shifts slightly during cutting, no ugly white margins are visible.
